Skin is a vital body organ. You will always want the best whenever it comes to skin treatment. A chemical peel is a skin treatment for those suffering from aging or sun damage signs. It helps in reducing acne scars, wrinkles, or uneven pigmentation appearance.  In this article, we will be covering everything you need to know about chemical peels .

What are Chemical Peels? – Brentwood, TN

A chemical peel is a non-surgical skin care treatment where a chemical exfoliant is applied to a target area. The target area can be the chest, neck, hands, or face. Chemical exfoliant breaks skin’s top players down, making them peel away.

ZO 3-STEP PEEL

ZO 3-Step Peel is an excellent chemical peel for any skin type. However, you will have to precondition the skin before using this Peel. It helps improve texture roughness, sun damage, large pores, melisma, and acne.

Ingredients used in making ZO 3-Step Peel include ZO-RRS, TCA, co-enzyme-Q10, Salicylic acid, 6% Retinol, and Lactic Acid.

How Chemical Peels Work

Chemical peels work with the support of acids inside the peel, which increases the skin’s acidity to 3.8 pH. In most cases, the skin has a pH of close to 5.5. Changing the pH level will loosen the cells forming the glue between healthy and dead skin. When the bond is loosened, exfoliation occurs. The dead skin is removed, revealing the healthy skin below it. The process promotes the growth of healthy and new skin cells.

How to Prepare

When you visit us in Brentwood, we will first conduct tests before determining the right chemical peel. We will also review your medical history to know if there will be any risks with the procedure.

If you are getting a deep or medium chemical peel, we will request you perform a special skincare routine. The skincare routine will last 2 to 4 weeks before you undergo a chemical peel. This will help prepare your skin to ensure better results.

Our doctors may request you take antiviral medicine. This will help in preventing infection. You will also have to avoid sun exposure for a couple of weeks before your chemical peel. You will have to avoid scrubs, facial masks, and hair removal procedures a week before the peel.

Ensure you organize a ride back home after the procedure. When scheduling your chemical peel, ensure you do not settle for a date close to an important event. The skin takes time to recover from a chemical peel.

What Are the Risks

Some risks come with using chemical peels on your skin. The risks can cause irreversible damage or can be lifelong. If you have decided to proceed with a chemical peel, you need to know these outstanding risks.

Chemical peel comprises carbolic acid (phenol). Phenol causes an atrocious effect on the cardiac muscles, leading to irregular heart function. It can cause lots of harm to the kidney and liver.

All the different types of chemical peels affect the human skin. Superficial peels make the skin darker than normal. Deep peels make the skin lighter than normal.

Chemical peels can cause cold sores and microbial infections like fungal infections.

What to Expect After

The recovery period after a chemical peel will always depend on your peel type. In most cases, the recovery period ranges from 3 to 14 days. After the chemical peel procedure, your skin will dry out. You will have to drink lots of water during this time. Ensure you do not wash your face at least 24 hours after having a chemical peel.

Your skin will start peeling a few days after having a chemical peel. The most intense peeling takes place in the middle days of the recovery. You will experience some crusting, irritation, or skin redness. Ensure you contact your skin consultant when you notice any bleeding.
